The B@ld Project

Talia Nat created a website with a series of interview of the women who shaved their heads as part of a Neptune Day tradition that occurs each term for those students who attend the Semester at Sea. The experience is completely voluntary, and the women who choose to experience shaving their heads often feel a sense of empowerment in the process. You can see a sample of her video interviews on her web page for The B@ld Project.

And here is her description of her video project:

On Semester at Sea, when we cross the equator and hit 0° latitude, "Neptune Day" is celebrated, during which shaving your hair off is regarded as a "new beginning." On the 130th voyage, 23 women decided to shave their heads. This project is about their journey of being hairless in a society that sees women's hair as an essential part of their femininity.
