Goodbye Hair: Long Hair to Buzzcut

Remember Ashley? She posted a video about her plans to shave her head on April 12, which I featured here last month. Tl:DR she is simply tired of having hair and has wanted to have a shaved head for a long time. April 12 came and went, and she did post a short video marking the occasion, and this longer video that just dropped. Her reaction as she shaved her head and after she had finished was so full of positive energy. I hope enjoys shaving her head for as long as she wants. We all deserve to be happy with how we look, and to feel free to express ourselves.

One of the cool things about this video is that she does express being more nervous than excited before she begins shaving, even though this is something she clearly wants to do, and she's been planning this for months. And she accepts her feelings as real (and based on a lot of societal norms that burden us all), and does what she wanted to do anyway, and has a lot of fun in the process. Making major changes in our lives (even over something as minor as shaving our heads) comes with some anxiety. That is normal. Accepting that, and understanding where that anxiety is coming from is important for us to move forward and do the things in life we want to do. The worst that happens? We can say we tried something out of our comfort zone.

I like that she set a date for shaving her head, and told people in her life that she was shaving her head on that specific day. If this is something you really want to do and want to make sure you follow through, put in on your calendar app. Your cell phone will remind you. One other thing seems important: identify your support network. People in your life who care about your well-being will be happy for you when they see you after you shave your head.
